I was soldering a few things today and forgot to unpluc my ECU.

The car will not start now and when i turn the ECU on it seems to be earthing all my coil wires. If the ECU is off its back to normal.

Do you think i have stuffed my ECU ?

Have you tried performing a coil/injector test ?

Yeah all appears to be working Sad

Its really strange.

I took the cover off the ecu and cannot see any damage. There could be a blown component though.

Without seeing what you have done, and being there to do some basic tests...Ive no idea.

Perhaps this new wiring you have done has messed things up, rather than damaged the ecu if the coils are working under test

The problem only happens when the ECU is turned on ( power)

If i use a continuity test everything Grounds.

With the ECU off everything goes where it should.

That why i can only assume its the ECU.

But you say you've done a coil test, proving that the coils work, and the ecu is able to trigger them.

Something doesnt make sense with your diagnosis.

Are you absolutely sure that you didn't accidently touch the ecu case with the +12V wires that you were soldering? That will most certainly destroy the ecu as it melts a pcb track inside which is usually unrepairable. Best send the ecu back to DTA for a health check, it doesn't cost much and it will tell you if its the ecu or something else.

I cant see why soldering the +12V wire with it live would do any harm, even if your soldering iron was connected to the car earth it would either spark and alarm you or just blow a fuse.
